Money is better than friends.
It’s much better to focus on getting money (than it is to focus on growing deep relationships with family and friends.)
Here’s why:
You can’t pay to put your name on your local medical university’s Children’s Hospital, with friends. (believe me. They don’t even take BTC.)
I think people miss the point of living.
If you’re dying without having alienated everyone who knew you,
then you haven’t crushed it.
Let’s get granular.
Apply this test to each day.
Did I crush it?
Did I crush someone?
Did I become someone’s crush?
If I’m not meeting at least 2 out of those 3 each day,
then I need to take one long hard look in the mirror. (But not too long, 8-10 minutes is enough.)
The go-getters among you might be asking:
“William, why not 3 out of 3?”
The answer is simple:
Self-care is important.
Because if you don’t have anybody close to you, self-care is all you will have. (Don’t tear your last parachute.)
Let’s zoom back out.
What’s my guiding star?
It’s my childhood idol, Patrick Bateman.
Patrick Bateman is the Simba to my Lion King.
He’s the Nemo to my Finding Nemo.
The Amber Heard to my Johnny Depp.
When I consider anyone who’s ever accomplished anything,
(the Beatles, Gandhi, Stalin)
You know what they all had in common?
(Besides not ever having played at Augusta?)
They each didn’t let close relationships block them from crushing it.
Lennon left Yoko.
Gandhi skipped meals with his family.
Stalin left the priesthood because he could read the room in Russia.
If you have any questions, I’ll be at my favorite NYC restaurant tonight.
Waiter: “Sir, will anyone be joining you tonight?”
Me: ”No.”
